Suppose you ask: why does this universe exist, with exactly these constants of nature, and not something else? The usual answers are "coincidence" or "it just is". EEML gives a different answer: only what can effortlessly sustain itself exists. Structures that undermine themselves fall away; what remains are configurations that agree with themselves. This universe is what remains.
The whole story in plain language: first the mathematics in words, then the philosophy behind it.
From two axioms to P = e−S, and on to the physics: mathematics and physics.
Over thirty frozen predictions with failure conditions, calendar and track record, misses included.
The Effortless Effect Meta-Law (EEML) is a selection mechanism. It answers one type of question: among all possible configurations, which one is chosen by reality? Its answer: only configurations that can effortlessly sustain themselves — without internal contradiction, without remainder, without structural resistance.
EEML does not derive standalone numbers. It indicates which stage exists. The calculations on that stage — the value of α, the masses of fermions, the exact frequencies of moduli oscillations — proceed via known mathematical and physical methods within the stage EEML selects.
EEML picks the universe. Physics calculates what happens in it.
That motto is also a distinction of levels. Choosing the stage is a-local: a weighing over whole universes, without place or moment. Calculating on the stage is local: step by step, here-and-now, via least action and the Born rule. → philosophy: local and a-local
Only what can effortlessly sustain itself exists. This is the Effortless Effect.
Water flows downhill — not because something steers it, but because that direction matches the structure of the space. Coherent with its own ground. That is effortless. The Effortless Effect says reality works this way at every level: structures that agree with themselves persist; structures that undermine themselves fall away.
The Effortless Effect is a fixed point: f(EE) = EE. The law applies to itself. This is expressly circular — and that circularity is what makes EEML fundamental.
Every non-circular law needs external grounding. That ground itself needs a ground. An infinite regress without floor. The only way out is a structure that applies to itself. Logic works this way: you cannot ask "why does logic exist?" without using logic. The Effortless Effect does the same for existence itself.
Precisely because EEML is circular, it cannot point outside itself to explain things. It points in. It selects within the space it itself spans. That is not a limitation — it is how a truly fundamental mechanism can work.
A configuration can be effortless in three independent senses:
Dynamic (Action) — low classical action. Flows with the dynamics. This is the known principle of least action.
Descriptive (Complexity) — simple to specify. Few free parameters. Minimum-description-length-like.
Structural (Instability) — stable against perturbation. No tachyons. No unnatural fine-tuning.
EEML selects the minimum of the sum: E = S + K + I. None of the three alone does the work — together they select the simplest stable configuration that is dynamically coherent.

For the lay reader: the internal geometry of the universe has a specific "topological signature" — the number 24. This follows necessarily from the mathematics.
Formal: via Rokhlin's theorem (σ ≡ 0 mod 16 for 4D Calabi-Yau with spin structure), χ ∈ 24ℤ. Elimination of χ=0 (via π1≠0 for T4) and higher |χ| (via K and I) leaves only χ=24. Supporting argument: modular invariance — η(τ)24 is the unique weight-12 cusp form on SL(2,ℤ), appears in K3 partition functions. No numerical anchors used.
For the lay reader: nature has exactly three "versions" of the elementary particles. The old claim that EEML explained this was retracted in August 2026 by the framework's own computations: the cheapest universe that can carry observers has one generation (plus two right-handed neutrinos), and our three-generation address is exactly 10 bits more expensive. The number 3 is thus an address fact, not a derivation; whoever wants to explain it one day now knows precisely how much evidence that must produce.
Formal: bare K-minimisation with the observer gate (baryogenesis) gives (m, mR) = (1, 2) via leptogenesis; the measured value (3, ≥2) costs ΔK = 10 bits. What stands: no fourth generation remains a hard prediction (F4), and χ/8 = 3 remains a labelled suggestion. See testing page, address ledger.
For the lay reader: the fine-structure constant α ≈ 1/137 sets the strength of electromagnetism. The required computations were actually carried out in 2026, and the answer split in two. The númber proved underivable: three attempts with pre-registered criteria, three honest failures; the value is an address coordinate (where we live in the distribution), sitting comfortably inside the window where observers can exist. But the strúcture proved more derivable than expected: the same machinery, given only consistency plus "an electron must be able to exist", uniquely selects our particle physics (the standard model with right-handed neutrinos).
Formal: ζ'K3(0) = +1.0 ± 0.1 and a₆ = −0.71 ± 0.02 have been measured (refuting the old target window ~10³–10⁴); the F2′ matching gave an 11% deviation and the derivation is retracted; observer-conditioned K-minimisation over finite spectral triples yields SM + νR as the unique survivor, with Majorana neutrinos as the guillotine prediction. Full story: testing page, section 2.
For the lay reader: K3 predicts gravitational waves with a specific pattern. The old claim "exactly 3.2 mHz for LISA" was retrofit. The honest prediction now concerns the pattern, not an exact frequency.
Formal: EEML selects K3 with 22 axions and 20 moduli. The pattern is fixed: discrete multi-peak (≤ 42 modes), algebraic ratios from O(3,19)-Casimirs, tensor polarization, isotropic, stationary, spectral gap |ρ|²=245. The absolute scale depends on the stabilization mechanism (KKLT/LVS/moduli-DM). With ΩDM·h² as anchor and moduli-as-DM scenario: band around 100 nHz–1 μHz (pulsar timing arrays, not LISA).
EEML consists of three layers that build on each other. Each layer goes as far as the derivation allows — and honestly stops where it stops.
Why "nothingness" is not stable. HERE as a closed whole, the zero-point, three modes of existence, why circularity is the structural strength.
From three axioms to P = e−S via Cauchy. The decomposition lemma S = A + K + I. Concrete definitions of K (MDL) and I (Hessian spectrum).
K3 via Rokhlin and modular invariance. Three arguments for N=3. Spectral action for α. Moduli signature pattern versus scenario-dependent scale.
EEML is a working hypothesis, not a peer-reviewed theory. The mechanism is self-consistent, the mathematical core is machine-verified (Lean 4), and the structure selection (the Standard Model with right-handed neutrinos) is unique within the explored universe. The α derivation was retracted after three pre-frozen attempts: continuous constants are address, and that boundary is now itself a falsifiable stake. Over thirty frozen predictions await their referees.
Where the derivation stops, the claim stops. Not a concession; the work itself.
Everything physics still calls "unexplained" is, in this framework, an address with a measured price. Summed:
fine-structure constant α ~5 bits (island address) three generations 10 bits cosmological constant Λ 3.5-9 bits electroweak scale 5 bits (the "hierarchy problem") Ω coincidence ("why now") 2 bits total ~25-32 bits
The entire remaining "why" of the observable universe thus fits in less information than this single line of text contains. The rest is law (derived), mechanism (cheaper than coincidence) or gate (condition): see the derivation audit.
To: the inhabitants of this universe. From: no one; there is no outside.
You don't need to assume anything. Follow the steps, including where they stop.
