Starting point Possibilities and ground. “Everything exists” is the philosophical proposal that all consistent possibilities belong to the whole. The zero point is full of possibilities, empty of separate determination. Absolute nothingness is not an independent ground within this proposal.
Model input Comparison and composition. An application chooses configurations, cost S, measure and composition. Independent costs add and relative weights multiply. Coupled parts do not automatically satisfy these rules.
Starting point Joint consistency. Partial explanations must fit into one joint description under their stated conditions. Individually possible does not mean jointly possible. This criterion also applies to EEML itself.
Research protocol Consistent redescription. Specify which observables must be preserved. Remove hidden variables through marginalisation or a justified reduction and retain their relevant effects. Then test against the full model and against data.
Possibilities need not have maximal weight to belong to the whole. “Everything exists” supplies no probability measure and does not allow contradictory conditions within the same realisation. The earlier least-resistance account below now has this broader context.
Everything is based on the Effortless Effect.
EEML proposes understanding reality through the path of least resistance. “Effortless” means that a continuation fits the structure within which it occurs. It does not mean that no energy is used or that everything persists without change.
It is a meta-law because the proposal also concerns the conditions of physical laws. The ambition is to understand why certain structures persist. Whether one measure can describe this at every level remains open.
“Everything” means no possibility excluded. “Nothing” means no separate thing specified. EEML calls this undifferentiated ground the zero point. It is not a spatial point, a quantum vacuum or a measured initial state of the universe.
The two words have different meanings here. The statement is therefore not simply an assertion that a proposition and its negation are both true. However, the presence of all possibilities remains an assumption: it does not automatically follow from the absence of specified distinctions.
A catalogue with no page selected is a useful image. But a catalogue already has structure. No image replaces the missing formal account of the zero point.
This sentence expresses Robin's starting point: absolute absence is not an independent ground alongside existence. EEML therefore starts from reality as a whole.
Our need for a description when discussing nothing does not prove this. That description exists for us; it does not by itself determine which other states are possible. The impossibility of absolute nothingness is presented here as a philosophical position, not a proved theorem.
HIER names the totality of what exists. By definition, an exterior to everything cannot be something outside that totality. This defines a concept; it does not prove a particular cosmology.
In this revision the zero point is a timeless ground concept. “From the zero point” means dependence within the account, not an earlier event. A physical model must separately show how time and distinctions occur within it.
We therefore no longer say that fluctuations in a timeless zero point immediately grow. Fluctuation, growth and instability already require states and dynamics.
A concrete model must specify the alternatives being compared, the conditions held fixed and what counts as resistance. Dynamical action, description length and stability are different concepts. Their relationship is a research question.
Efficiency here is not a percentage of useful energy. Where no paths can be compared, “0% or 100% efficient” is undefined. The comparison ceases to apply; the percentages do not thereby become mathematically equal.
According to EEML, a law about everything must apply to itself. This is the intended circularity: no criterion outside the whole is invoked to justify the law.
f(EE) = EE
For now this is a schema for self-application. It becomes a fixed-point problem only after a space of laws and an operator f are defined. Existence, uniqueness and relevance to our reality must then be investigated separately.
A self-consistent proposal need not be the only proposal. Avoiding an external ground does not automatically rule out every other philosophical position.
An unstable phenomenon may exist temporarily. “What does not persist does not exist” is therefore too strong for things within our universe. Stability also depends on the perturbations and timescale under consideration.
A possible model of complete universes can distinguish admissibility, weight and an observer's standpoint. EEML investigates that possibility. The existence of all consistent universes and a uniquely dominant reality are not presented here as proved consequences.
How can an undifferentiated ground concept connect to a model with states, differences and a resistance measure? That is the central question. The mathematics that follows investigates one possible weighting model. It does not yet supply this bridge.
